Thassos is located on the northern part of Greece right across Kavala. It's 18 nautical miles from the city of Kavala and just 6 nautical miles from Keramoti and the Airport. The capital of the island is Thassos city.
The island is full of trees and the main income of the island comes from lumber, marble, tourism, olive oil, olives, and honey. It has a large variety of trees (olive, pine, cedar etc) that cover the entire island from the plains till the mountain tops.
Tourists in Thassos have a plethora of options when it comes to enjoying a swim at the beach. Whether you like white sand or yellow golden sand, small pebbles or large ones, shallow or deep waters, Thassos has the perfect beach for you. Chrysi ammoudia in Skala Panagias, Chrysi Akti in Skala Potamias, Koinira, Paradisos, Thymonia, Alyki, Psili Ammos, Astris, Akti Potou, Pefkari, Akti Limenarion, Trypiti, Atsapa in Skala Marion, Akti Kallirachi, Akti Sotiras, Akti Alsyliou in Skala Prinou, Skala Rachoniou, Pachi, Papalimani, Glyfada and Akti Agiou Vasileiou in the city of Thassos. Not to miss are also the natural springs in Panagia.
Thassos is also an island with many opportunities for outdoor activities such as Jet skiing, fishing, hunting, trecking, hiking as well as bird watching. The national organization Bird Life along with the Greek Ornithology Assocciation have started a program that includes constant bird watching from volunteers in one of the most important areas in Thassos (IBA GR016).
